Kildare County Council have granted planning permission for a mixed use residential, commercial and retail development with a total gross floor area of 21,316 sq metres.  The site is located on the former Kelly’s Bakery site, adjoining the historic town with frontage onto New Road at Kilcock, Co Kildare.

The new development draws the town square into the scheme through the creation of a plaza along a new street.  An anchor convenience unit of 1,910 square metres designed in an internal mall with 16 no. retail units at ground floor level that have a gross floor area of 1,841 square metres. Kilcock has been starved of a major retailer for a number of years and the proposed scheme has already attracted the attentions of major tenants.  The new residential element will comprise 33 new apartments (7 new one beds apartmenta and 14 two beds apartments), 12 three beds Houses designed around a landscaped, central courtyard above the retail scheme. A basement carpark provides 276 parking spaces. This new development will help transform and revitalise the heart of the Kilcock.

Kilcock is a very historical town, dating back to the early Christian period.  It is positioned along the Rye River and the Royal canal, which adds to the town’s potential.  Kilcock is also in proximity to the M4 and has a commuter rail service. Kilcock is also within a close distance of Maynooth, with its University of approximately 8,400 registered students.

There was a 47% population increase in Kilcock from the 2002 Census to the 2006 Census. Currently Kilcock has a population of approximately 4,100 that figure will increase following development of 1,150 new houses and new apartments planned north of the town in County Meath. A new distributor road will connect the Maynooth Road to the Dunboyne Road. Within the scheme a new inner relief road is planned which will provide a one-way system over the constrained ‘Meath Bridge’. The new development also provide for the improvement of the new road and the junctions of Harbour Road.

The development of the former Kelly’s Bakery site is a joint venture between McGarrell Reilly Group and Sammon Group. Sammon Group is a local Kilcock based business, specialising in joinery and contracting.
