Dundalk has great transport facilities.
Public Transport
Irish Rail operates frequent ‘Enterprise’, Inter-City and regular services on the Dublin/Belfast line with a main line station at Dundalk and NI Railways operates frequent ‘Enterprise’ services on the Belfast/Dublin line with a main line station at Dundalk.
Bus Éireann operates frequent ‘Expressway’ and regular services from Dublin and Ulsterbus operates frequent services from Belfast, Derry and all of Northern Ireland. A number of private bus companies also operate services to and from Dundalk.
Matthews Coaches offers commuters from Dundalk a comfortable and affordable way of travelling between Dublin, Drogheda and Dundalk with its Dublin Commuter Routes with fares as little as €7. The company also offers a door-to-door coach hire service to any airport or ferry port in the island of Ireland.
Airports
Dundalk is also advantageously positioned close to two international airports with Dublin Airport and Belfast International Airport less than an hour’s drive from here and Belfast City Airport just over an hour’s drive.
Roads
Dundalk is reached via the brand new motorway from Dublin right through to Newry, Northern Ireland. Works to be completed by 2010 on the remaining 12.7km of single carriageway at Newry will see a motorway from Dublin right through to Belfast. Dundalk itself has an excellent roads system along with a number of cycle routes around the town.

Dundalk is great for shopping and boasts a great mix of local owned stores and four shopping centres, large supermarkets (Dunnes Stores, Tesco, Aldi and Superquinn) and regular Farmers Markets. Altitude Project
A new ambitious project called Altitude has been proposed for Dundalk. It will include building 13,500m2 Snowflex® ski slope facility, indoor events arenas, indoor and outdoor adventure park with climbing, caving, ropes courses, children’s play areas, white water rafting and canoe slalom course.
The project will also include a major family entertainment centre offering the latest attractions, and Ireland's first interactive golf driving range. Accommodation will include a family hotel, 5* resort hotel, “state of the art” casino, spa facilities, quality self catering holiday lodges, all with the benefit of adjacency to the first all weather racetrack in Ireland, and other more traditional tourist activities in this major “gateway”.
Arts & Culture
There is a thriving arts scene here with the award-winning County Museum, An Táin Theatre and festivals of music and song, culture, literature, visual arts, film and drama. The Spirit Store promotes a wide range of events including drama, poetry readings, comedy nights and gigs and hosts well-known and up-and-coming Irish and international artists.
Education
Educational amenities in Dundalk are excellent. The town has 35 schools (primary and secondary) which have very good student-teacher ratios. There is also the highly successful Institute of Technology. From Dundalk there is also easy access to universities in both Dublin and Belfast as both cities are both only 84km away.

Healthcare
Dundalk has a good standard of healthcare and Louth County Hospital based in the town which offers a wide range of acute services.
There is also a 16-bed High Support Mental Health Unit, a 150-bed Geriatric Unit, a Psychiatric Day service and an Alzheimer’s Day Unit within the hospital grounds and the North Eastern Health Board operates a GP out-of-hours service on the campus of Louth County Hospital.
Dundalk also has a wide range of other medical facilities and the regional hospital is also close by in Drogheda.
